i did not used a filter. i shot the picture in raw format, using nikon capture to adjust the contrast a little, but thats it.
i do have a version with ground and trees but i thought it would be much better without any objects in the scene.
take a look here

yes, it would have even more strength to it when one could place that enormous storm in relation to a landscape. but strong capture nonetheless. :)

(und ein freundliches hallo von einer ecke deutschlands in eine andere - du hast unser wetter ja fast ideltypisch getroffen ;))

Nice effect, the clouds are great, something else is needed though.... an eagle or something would have been perfect!

God save you if arenhaus drops in. I actually have to agree with him and say that grey is usually the enemy of color, and here, that's definitely true. It may add contrast, but it also adds ugliness. Try making a color to grey gradient in photoshop, and see how gross it looks. I think, for such an intense stormcloud as this, that the look ought to be completely monochromatic to intensify that lonely, brooding feeling. Where it becomes grey, it also gets fuzzier because of the proximity to the horizon, so it just really ruins it.

An eagle? Thats too cliché in my opinion.
And besides, where to get an eagle? There aren't any around my place.
